The jury trial of a Buckfield man accused of killing his infant daughter back in 2020 begins Tuesday in Androscoggin County Superior Court.

The Office of the Maine Attorney General announced the Criminal Division hearing in a news release Monday.

Trevor Averill has pleaded not guilty to depraved indifference murder and manslaughter in the killing of his 2-month-old daughter, Harper Averill, in July of 2020.

Prosecutors say Averill shook Harper, leading to a fractured skull, bleeding in the brain, and a spinal injury. They say he was the only person at home with the infant when the abuse took place.

There is also evidence of previous abuse to the child which prosecutors contend was the result of Averill’s actions.

Police were originally called to a home on North Parish Road in Turner on July 22, 2020, for a report of a child choking, which was reported by Averill.

His jury selection began last Thursday.
