President Trump is calling Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner a “low level thug” and a “pig.”

Trump made the comment Wednesday after being asked about Platner, who has faced numerous controversies, including recent accusations he mistreated women.

“I watched that thug that’s up in Maine. He’s a thug, and they’re trying to make excuses for him. I mean, he’s worse than any human being that’s ever run for office, probably,” Trump said of Platner. “This guy’s a thug. He’s a low-level thug and he’s running to be a senator.

“He’s a cheap, no-good person,” Trump added. “I’ve never seen a person like that run for office.”

Trump also said Republican Senator Susan Collins has his full support in the race.

He had previously said Collins shouldn’t be be reelected after she voted to force an end the war in Iran.

Platner continues to make national headlines as the Maine Senate race is seen as pivotal in efforts by Democrats efforts to retake the chamber.
