Two Massachusetts Men Face Drug Charges After South Portland Chase

Two Massachusetts men face charges after being involved in a police chase in South Portland early Saturday morning.

Officers say they chased a speeding car on Westbrook Street at about 1:30 a.m. and ordered two people out of the vehicle after it hit a dead end on Osprey Circle, and backed into the police cruiser, and became disabled.

Police say 21-year-old Hamza A. Mahamud of Roxbury, MA. and 33-year-old Gerald A. Daughtry of Roslindale, MA. face drug trafficking charges after a large amount of narcotics disguised in popular candy packaging were found inside the car. Mahamud  also faces charges for the chase and driving without a license.

Mahamud and Daughtry were both taken to the Cumberland County Jail and are being held on $30,000 cash bail each. Officers also say they confiscated a knife, drug equipment, cash, and several cell phones from the vehicle. No one was hurt in the incident.
