WGME – It’s the biggest storms where you see the best in your neighbors.

That was on display in Falmouth and all across the state as folks are digging themselves out and trying to stay in.

“Gonna get down to business here in just a little bit and snow blow some driveways,” said Bill Sandberg.

Bill Sandberg woke up Saturday morning and saw the snow as a perfect opportunity to help out his Falmouth neighbors.

His road is typically too busy to cross but not on Saturday.

Sandberg is helping his next-door neighbor Lizzy Wiles clear the heavy and wet snow.

“Getting outside, getting some fresh air,” said Wiles. “We lost the power so just trying to stay busy.”

As of Saturday afternoon, Central Maine Power crews say more than four hundred people in Falmouth were without power and more than 10,000 in Cumberland County.

Most of the calls Portland police have handled have been storm related crashes.

“We are asking the motoring public that if they do not have to go out on the roads, to not go out on the roads but we live in Maine and folks do travel,” Portland Police Lieutenant Robert Doherty.

Lieutenant Doherty says try to stay off the roads and only go outside to enjoy the snow or shovel.

“Hoping that tomorrow we can leave the property and go do something fun,” said Wiles.

Sandberg will be spending the rest of his day helping the neighborhood.

“Doing my part,” said Sandberg. “And hopefully being a good citizen here for everyone.”

With parking bans in most towns, police are reminding folks to safely remove your car from the street.

Portland police say more than fifty cars were towed Friday night.
