Coleen is a phenomenal teacher and a true hero to her students and school’s community. She keeps her classroom stocked with clothes, food, and essentials for students in need and has even given away her own lunch to a hungry student. She regularly gives up her breaks to support others and goes above and beyond in every role she takes on.
As a mentor teacher, she supports new educators with recertification, lesson planning, and resources. Coleen also leads the school drama program, often spending her own time creating costumes, sets, and scenery while rehearsing with students. She encourages everyone to participate and makes each role feel important, which has greatly increased student involvement.
She builds strong community connections by taking students to read at local shelters and younger schools, helping them gain confidence and find their voice as readers.
Coleen also leads a Girl Scout troop, ensuring every girl can participate by providing transportation and meaningful activities. She volunteers with inclusive programs like Unified sports and Best Buddies, helping all students feel valued and included.
