Kimber Sands – 20 Outstanding Women of 2025

Congratulations to Kimber Sands, one of our 20 Outstanding Women of 2025!

Listen to Kimber’s full interview with Blake and Kelly below:

Kimber Sands has dedicated herself to serving Androscoggin County’s most vulnerable populations, working through the pandemic at temporary homeless and quarantine shelters. She consistently went beyond her role, often working unpaid hours to ensure guests received the care and support they needed. In 2020, she became a founding member of the Shelter Development Team, advocating for Lewiston’s first 24-hour low-barrier shelter. Despite numerous obstacles and setbacks, Kimber’s commitment to the community never faltered.

In addition to her advocacy work, Kimber serves in an administrative role at Blue Sky Counseling, where she connects individuals experiencing homelessness with substance use treatment when they are ready. Her determination and dedication played a crucial role in securing $2.5 million in funding from Maine Housing in November 2024, making the long-fought vision of a 24-hour shelter a reality.
